LEARN to SKATE at 
THE SKATING EDGE ICE ARENA

About the program: Our Instructors will teach small classes in Figure Skating or Ice Hockey, both Children and Adults for periods of 30 minutes, with skaters being taught simple, easy to learn moves from the U.S. FIGURE SKATING BASIC SKILLS PROGRAM , which is now recognized as one of the finest programs available anywhere and the very best way to have fun, learn to skate in the safest possible way.

     The well design curriculum and objectives are a perfect match with your own goals:

  • Improving skills through levels which will enhance confidence and satisfaction at each step.

  • To build a solid foundation which will serve YOU well in the future if you decide to pursue either Figure Skating or Ice Hockey more seriously.

  • The 10 Lessons are held on Wednesday from: 5:10pm - 5:40pm or Saturday from 11:40am - 12:10pm  and Public Skating is before Class on Wednesday from 3:00-5:00pm and after class on Saturday from 12:10-2:0pm

USFSA MEMBERSHIP: In order to participate in Group Lesson, student must be a member of the USFSA; annual fee is $8.00  from  9/1/ - to 8/31/ 
REGISTRATION:  Must register for class before starting date. You can register two weeks ahead  MON -FRI  9:00am-5:00pm ,  SAT  7:30am-2:00pm
REGISTRATION FEE:  New enrollment is 125.00 and  $8.00 for yearly USFA Membership from Sept 1 to Aug 31. If you pre-register for consecutive RE-enrollment, must be before the first day of class, the FEE is 115.00, both payable in full at the time of registration. The Fee includes; admission to the rink, instruction from our Staff of professional skaters, all course material, 3rd party liability insurance.
RENTAL SKATES: are included at no charge, however your own skates will make your skating far more enjoyable. In any event, skates should fit snug and be laced firm right to the top which will provide the necessary support for you to really enjoy your skating experience.
What to wear:  A pair of gloves, dress warm and comfortable "no long coats", Hat's or ear warmers optional.
                                Skating apparel always available at the Vic's Pro Shop at the Ice Rink.
A final Note: Classes will of course re-scheduled if the rink is closed for any reason during the 10 weeks enrollment .The Skating Edge Ice Arena is offering for current enrolled students a discount for Public skating for $5.00, including skate rental.

LESSONS offered from "SNOWPLOW SAM" THROUGH "ADULTS" in "FIGURE SKATING" and "HOCKEY"

             

SNOWPLOW SAM  1-3
  
 Learn from sit and stand up on and off ice, including  march, dips, swizzles, wiggles and stops.

BASIC 1-8
  
Eight  levels allowing skater to be comfortable skating on ice. Basic skating techniques is needed to advance into any of the areas of the Basic Skills Program.

FREESKATE 1-6
  
Upon completion of Basic 1 – 8, skaters learn advanced forward stroking, waltz-jump, half flip, other jumps, spins, footwork, and other athletic and artistic moves.
ADULT  Class:  Is held on WED only. You can come as a drop in any Wednesday. Cost is $20.00

HOCKEY 1-4
 
Must have hockey skates: Learning basics ice hockey skills, introducing to power skating. Should come in hockey gears.

JUMP & SPIN

JUMP & SPIN
  The Jump & Spin Class is held on  WEDNESDAY'S only. It's for skaters to improve on Jumps & Spins only

Current enrolled students are offered a discount for any Public Session including skate rental for only  $5.00

 

                                COACHES


Kelly Witt

Kelly is both National and International medalist in Ice Dancing and a U.S. International Team Member.  He has USFSA gold medals in Dance, Free Dance, International Dance, Solo Dance and Moves In The Field, including the I.S.U. dance test.  He has coached at the national dance level and was a voting member of the USFSA Dance and PSA Dance Committees; additionally guest speaking at numerous “A” and “B” level judging schools.  He has been coaching at THE SKATING EDGE for 23 years and specializes in Moves In The Field, Ice Dance, and Stroking.

 


 

 

Charlene Wong

Canadian born Charlene Wong draws from  over thirty years of experience in the sport of ice skating when working with her students who range from beginners through to Olympic hopefuls. Her coaching philosophy encourages participation in ice skating as a means to develop character and the skills that will  bring out one's personal best in everything. Charlene has experience in all ice skating disciplines as well as choreography, direction and production of ice skating events. Her skating accomplishments include being a Five Time National Silver Medalist, Four time World Competitor, US Open Professional Champion and 1988 Olympian.

 

   Lorna Brown

British and  World Professional Champion and a World and Olympic coach. Former National Coach of Denmark. A principal performer in numerous ice shows all over the world including "John Curry's Ice Dancing" on Broadway NY, and "Theatre of Skating" at the London Palladium. She has appeared in TV specials, touring Galas and commercials world wide. She has studied contemporary dance and worked with some of the Worlds leading choreographers and has choreographed for several International champions including  "2 World Professional Champions."  In addition, she has lectured on all aspects of figure skating, at "National and International seminars" for both skaters and coaches. She has  produced and directed her own International Skating School in the UK called "Skate of the Art" with the world famous Rafael Arituniun for 7 consecutive years.
She specializes in the latest physics and aero dynamics in skating techniques. She focuses a great deal on expression and style in her choreography and has written several articles for skating magazines on these subjects. She specializes mostly in singles, both on and off the ice training.
She moved to the USA  3 years ago and  has been awarded the  PSA Level 7 ranking and holds a BA in sports science.

Scott Williams

Creator and Co-Executive Producer on the TLC series Ice Diaries, Scott is active in all facets of the figure skating industry – coaching at The Skating Edge as well as producing live and televised events.  In 1997, he founded Turtle Island Productions, Inc., and went on to create and produce four seasons of the American Open Professional Figure Skating Championships®, as well as a number of other skating specials such as Skate of Champions.  Scott also produced White Canvas Productions’ 2004, 2005 and 2006 Brian Boitano Skating Spectacular on NBC, and will continue to manage the project as Producer for the 2007 show.   In 1997 Scott founded and presided over the Professional Figure Skaters Cooperative (PFSC – www.proskaters.org).  An accomplished skater himself, earning titles from Junior World Champion, U.S. Silver Medalist and World Team Member to U.S. Open and World Professional Champion, Scott has shared his extensive experience through coaching and choreographing in the United States and abroad.  In addition to choreographing and directing skating specials like Cinderella on Ice, and Beverly Hills on Ice, Scott coached Michelle Kwan to a fifth World Championship crown and seventh U.S. National title in 2003.  Scott also holds a degree in Project Management from the University of Phoenix. 

Scott is married to Azumi (Sagara) Williams, an accomplished national and international competitive ice dancer and adagio star of Holiday on Ice and Royal Caribbean ice shows.  Azumi works with a number of Scott's students, and specializes in choreography, stroking, and moves in the field. 

Olga Tsomaia

Olga was born in Russia. She was trained in ballet at choreographic school (Vocational College) which she graduated with honors and earned the Bachelor degree
of  Fine Arts in Dance. Olga was accepted to classical ballet company of Academic Theatre "Paliashvili" where she performed for 11 years. She has danced in all ballet productions and toured with the company in many European countries. In the United States, Olga has learned modern dance, worked with some choreographers and performed in some small dance companies. For past 10 years, she has been teaching ballet for figure skaters and during this time she has taught the different ranks skaters. She has emphasized on student's posture, arms, stretching, and artistry, which in her opinion is important for good skaters. Her students almost every year have competed at Nationals and Junior National competitions and have had achieved good results.
